About Preview Beta Clients

Between Preview Releases, we are always working on improvements to the products. Occasionally a change in Helix Server requires an updated Helix Client to communicate with it correctly. When a new version of Helix Server has progressed far enough that it is stable enough for actual use, we run our own techdb with it.

HelixChat is part of techdb, so when we update our Server in this way, HelixChatters will need to download the updated Client as well. This page contains those download links.

By using these updated Clients to connect to HelixChat, you can see the improvements we have made to the interface since the last official Preview Release.

Please note: while it may occasionally be possible to use a newer Helix Client to connect to an older Helix Server, it is not recommended and can lead to data loss. Do not use any Preview Beta Release to connect to your own Helix Server or you may experience data loss.

This Client is Pre-enabled

The Preview Beta Clients are pre-enabled with QSA ToolWorks registration information. However, Helix Client keys never expire, so it is possible to continue using these Clients indefinitely. Please! When a new version of Helix Client is released, delete these Preview Beta Clients and download the update.

Reporting Bugs

To report a bug in the Preview Release, log in to our technical support database (techdb) with the current Helix Client. (Detailed instructions are found in the Reporting Bugs & Quirks section of this site.) Bugs reports should not be filed via email, phone call, or any other method.

To participate in the interactive bug reporting system, you must have the correct Helix Client to visit our techdb database. Click here to see current information for accessing techdb.

After You Download

We know there is too much information on these pages for it to sink in all at once. So after you have downloaded the Preview Release and taken it for a spin, please come back and re-read these web pages; you might save yourself a lot of agony.

And be sure to check out the Help menu — you will find Engine-specific help built on the standard OS X Help Viewer format. This is much better than the old Classic Helix help!
