What's New in Helix Maintenance Manager 1.0.4
Introduction

Helix Maintenance Manager 1.0.4 is a minor bug fix and enhancement release. HMM 1.0.4 address problems that were discovered after (or introduced by) the release of HMM 1.0.3.

Helix Maintenance Manager 1.0.3 was our first Universal application. With the release of HMM 1.0.4, HMM Scheduler is also a Universal application.

Note: Plans created or modified with HMM 1.0.2 or earlier are not compatible with HMM 1.0.4. Be sure to back up your existing plans before updating to HMM 1.0.4 in case something goes wrong. You can back up your plans by making a copy of the MaintenanceManager folder (found in the Helix Folder in the Application Support folder of your Library folder).

Bug Fixes

Helix Maintenance Manager

  • HMM no longer stores a random value in the backupTimeout setting when a new plan is created. All plans created in earlier versions of HMM are reset to the default value of 5 minutes the first time they are opened with HMM 1.0.4.
  • A Trim Logfile After setting of 0 (or less) would cause HMM to pause indefinitely during the "Finishing Up" phase. When opening existing plans, HMM 1.0.4 resets Trim Logfile After values less than 1 to 1. (HMM now beeps if a value of 0 or less is entered, warning you of a potential problem.)
  • Helix Maintenance Manager no longer displays multiple errors messages if you close every window then click on the HMM icon in the dock. Upon reactivation HMM 1.0.4 opens the Manager window if no windows are open.

HMM Scheduler

  • HMM Scheduler would crash when executing a custom schedule if the hour or minute field was left blank. The specific error was:
    ValueError: invalid literal for int()
Improvements and Enhancements

Helix Maintenance Manager

  • The splash screen for HMM now displays the main version number (e.g: 1.0) as a graphic element. The maintenance release version number and build number (e.g: 1.0.4 (033)) are shown in plain text beneath the main version number.
  • Test Setup now checks the validity of the timeout settings, and warns if a value is outside the legal range.
  • The Trim Logfile After default is now set to 1.
  • The backupTimeout default setting is increased to 5 minutes. (It was 2 minutes before.)

HMM Scheduler

  • HMM Scheduler is now also a Universal application.
This version runs only under macOS 10.4 (aka Tiger). A 10.3 compatible version of HMM Scheduler is included in the Stuff You Might Need folder. This 10.3 version is the same as shipped in HMM 1.0.3, and does not include the fixes to Scheduler made for 1.0.4.
Manual Updates
  • The layout has been changed slightly to improve printing.
