Option and Triplet Posting Sections

The difference between the Option and Triplet sections of the Post icon is often confusing. These functions work together to determine what a Post will accomplish.

After the Post determines the status of the Set Destination links, Helix looks at the Option section to determine what should be done with the record. Then Helix goes to the Triplet section and perrforms the Posting operations for each Field according to the Field operators.

The Option section deals with the whole record. It tells Helix what to do with the target record if a match is found and what to do if no match is found. For example, with an Option 2 Post on Enter, if a matching link (or linking match) is found, the Post will modify the existing target record. If no matching link is found, the Post will create a new record in the target Relation.

The Triplet section deals only with Fields within the record. It tells Helix what action to perform on each individual Field based on the Posting operator, Posting option and entry procedure selected.

In the example below, on an Option 2 post on Enter, if the link finds a match in the target Relation, Field 1 will not post, Field 2 will modify the existing target Field and Field 3 will increment the target Field. If the link does not find a match, the Post will create a new record, Field 1 and 2 will post and Field 3 will increment the target Field.

Using the same illustration, when the Option 2 Post occurs on Replace, if the link finds a match, Field 1 will not post, Field 2 will modify the existing target Field and Field 3 will subtract the old value from the target Field, then increment the target Field with the modified value. If the link does not find a match, Field 1 and 2 will post, and Field 3 will subtract the old value from the target Field and then increment the target Field with the modified value.
